Four steps
- Choose your generationYears, body styles and layout differ a lot between the seven generations. Start with the timeline.
- Check the papersRegistration, service history and receipts tell you how the car was looked after.
- Check the known issuesFor the 7th generation, go through the Gen 7 Garage table and ask the seller about each point.
- Get a second opinionAn inspection by an independent mechanic who knows the model is worth it.

JDMBUYSELL, a dealer guide, notes that a car can be imported to the US once it is 25 years old, counted from its build date, and to Canada at 15 years1. Check the current rules with the authorities before you buy.
